About

Spillway Campground occupies a prime lakeside location on Woods Canyon Lake, one of the most visited lakes in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area of Arizona's Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. At 7,500 ft elevation, the campground is shaded by ponderosa pine, oak, and Douglas fir, providing cool summer temperatures and a scenic retreat from the desert heat below the Mogollon Rim. The campground offers 26 individual campsites plus one group site accommodating up to 25 people. Each site includes a leveled spur, picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill. Three vault toilets and water hydrants serve the campground. Woods Canyon Lake permits only electric boat motors, making it ideal for quiet fishing. The Woods Canyon Lake loop trail passes adjacent to the campground, and the Rim Lakes Vista Trail is less than a mile away. Summer brings pleasant temperatures but afternoon thunderstorms are common from late June through August. Gas and groceries are available 10 miles east at Forest Lakes; Payson is 35 miles west on Highway 260.

Directions

From Payson, take Highway 260 northeast toward Heber. Turn left (west) onto Forest Road 300 directly across from the Rim Visitor Information Station and follow for 5 miles. Turn right onto Woods Canyon Lake Road (FR 105). Spillway is 0.75 miles on the right, adjacent to Woods Canyon Lake. Located 25 miles west of Heber.
