About

Aspen Campground is one of Arizona's most popular camping destinations, located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest near Woods Canyon Lake. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, the campground sits in a beautiful forest of ponderosa pine, oak, and aspen, offering cool summer temperatures and scenic mountain views. The large facility encompasses 136 spacious campsites spread across four loops that alternate between grassy meadows and rocky forest environments, providing varied camping experiences. The campground provides access to Woods Canyon Lake, one of seven lakes in the Rim Lakes Recreation Area. The 52-acre lake allows only electric boat motors, making it ideal for peaceful fishing and boating. Anglers fish for trout while hikers enjoy the 5.2-mile interpretive nature trail that circles the lake. A full-service marina store at the lake offers groceries, camping supplies, boat rentals, and firewood. The campground's paved roads are excellent for family bike rides, and Forest Service rangers offer educational programs on weekends during the season. Wildlife is abundant, with frequent sightings of deer, elk, squirrels, and birds. Bears, skunks, and deer commonly visit campsites, so proper food storage is essential. Summer weather is pleasant due to the elevation, though afternoon thunderstorms are common from late June through August. Visitors should come prepared for rain and cool to cold nighttime temperatures. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, and potable water and vault toilets are available throughout the campground.
