About
Spanish Creek Campground is a recently upgraded but charming campground located in the Plumas National Forest, positioned where Banish Creek and Indian Creek merge to form the east branch of the North Fork Feather River. The campground sits at 2,000 feet elevation in the scenic Feather River Canyon, with sites spread across two loops—one on a hillside and one right along the water. The campground offers excellent recreation opportunities including a very popular swimming hole directly on Spanish Creek and access to rainbow trout fishing in the nearby Feather River. The site is well-shaded and equipped with modern amenities including vault toilets, drinking water, bear boxes, and fire rings with grills at each site. Nearby attractions include Indian Falls just a few miles away, the Butterfly Valley Botanical Area, and the historic town of Quincy 8 miles to the east for supplies. The Mount Hough Ranger District office is also nearby for additional area information. Cell phone service is unreliable in the area, and bears frequent the campground so food storage regulations are mandatory.
Directions
From Quincy, travel west on Highway 70 for 8 miles. The campground will be on the left. From Oroville, travel east on Highway 70 for 75 miles; the turnoff is two miles past Highway 89, across the Spanish Creek bridge.
