About

Snake Lake campground is located at approximately 3,900 feet elevation in the Meadow Valley area off Bucks Lake Road, about 8 miles from the town of Quincy. The campground features 17 sites total, with 8 designated equestrian sites equipped with corrals and an ADA mounting ramp. The shallow Snake Lake reservoir is filled with lily pads and offers fishing opportunities for bluegill, bass, and catfish, though swimming is not recommended. This multi-use campground is unique on the Mount Hough Ranger District as one of the only campgrounds allowing direct OHV trail access from the sites. The Snake Lake Basin provides easy access to multi-use trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV use. The setting is shaded by mixed pine and fir forest along the lakeside. The campground operates first-come, first-served with a $15 daily fee payable via envelope or app. No potable water or trash services are provided, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Vault toilets are available. Each site includes a fire pit, picnic table, and bear-proof food storage locker. Maximum stay is 14 days, with 6 people and 2 vehicles per site. Horses are allowed overnight in equestrian sites only, and certified weed-seed-free feed is required.
