About
Snake Lake Campground and Equestrian Camp is nestled in the Meadow Valley area of Plumas National Forest at 3,900 feet elevation. The campground sits beside a shallow lake in a mixed pine and fir forest, offering 17 campsites that accommodate tents, RVs, OHVs, and horses. Eight equestrian sites feature small corrals and an ADA mounting ramp, while the remaining nine standard sites are available for general camping. The campground operates as a primitive facility with vault toilets, picnic tables, fire pits, and bear boxes at each site. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Trash service is not provided and all refuse must be packed out. The site functions as a hub for recreation with direct access to multi-use trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV activities. Fishing and non-motorized boating are available on the lake. Equestrian users must use certified weed-seed-free feed or pellets, and horse manure must be removed, scattered, or buried. Water for horses is available via bucketing from the spillway, as lake-edge watering is prohibited. Pets are allowed but must be kept leashed and attended at all times. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, with a maximum stay of 14 days.
