About

Snake Lake Campground and Equestrian Camp sits at approximately 3,900 feet elevation in a mixed pine and fir forest about 8 miles northwest of Quincy, California. The campground surrounds shallow Snake Lake, known for its lily pads and fishing for bluegill, bass, and catfish. Swimming is not recommended due to the overgrown, shallow conditions. This multi-use campground features 17 sites total, with 10 standard nonelectric sites and 7 equestrian sites equipped with small corrals and an ADA mounting ramp. The campground is one of the few on the Mt. Hough Ranger District that allows OHV trail access directly from camp, making it popular with off-road enthusiasts, mountain bikers, and horseback riders alike. Facilities are rustic: vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and bear boxes are provided, but there is no potable water, trash service, or hookups. Campers must pack out all trash and bring their own water. Horse campers must use certified weed-seed-free feed and remove or scatter manure from corrals.

Directions

From Quincy, take Bucks Lake Road northwest approximately 8 miles to the Meadow Valley area. The campground is located off Bucks Lake Road.
