About
South Sandusky Day Use Area is a popular day-use destination on Rend Lake in southern Illinois, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The facility is best known for its spacious sandy beach, which provides the most accessible public swimming access on the 20,633-acre lake. The area includes two large reservable picnic shelters, each accommodating up to 50 people and equipped with picnic tables, grills, and electric service. Additional amenities include restrooms, a shower facility, drinking water, a boat ramp, and a playground. Shelter reservations include 25 parking passes, and the primary occupant must be 18 or older. This is strictly a day-use facility. Overnight camping is prohibited at this location. Pets and alcohol are not permitted at the shelters, picnic areas, or beach. Visitors seeking overnight accommodations should consider the adjacent South Sandusky Campground, which offers 124 campsites with electric hookups.
