About

North Sandusky Day Use Area offers a perfect destination for day trips and group gatherings on the north shore of Rend Lake in Southern Illinois. The facility features two large reservable group picnic shelters, each accommodating up to 50 guests, complete with picnic tables, grills, and drinking water. The shelters have electric service for added convenience. The area provides excellent access to Rend Lake's 20,633 acres of water, with a boat ramp and boat dock within walking distance. Additional amenities include a playground and disc golf course. The location serves as a gateway to the Rend Lake Bike Trail, featuring over 20 miles of paved pathways winding through scenic woodlands with views of the lake and Big Muddy River. The shoreline offers prime viewing for waterfowl and shorebirds, as well as excellent bank fishing opportunities for the lake's renowned crappie population. Rend Lake's diverse landscape includes fields, forests of hickory, oak, and maple trees that provide habitat for white-tail deer, turkeys, raccoons, and other native wildlife. The area supports a variety of activities including boating, fishing, biking, kayaking, canoeing, and birding. This is strictly a day-use facility and overnight camping is prohibited.

Directions

From I-57 take exit 77, and turn west onto Route 154. Continue for 4.5 miles, then turn south on Rend City Road. Continue through the stop sign to the park entrance.
