About

Shagbark Group Camp is located on the western shore of Rend Lake near Sandusky Cove in the heart of Southern Illinois. Part of the larger North Sandusky Campground complex, this group camping area sits along the banks of the 20,633-acre Rend Lake and can accommodate up to 200 campers, making it ideal for large gatherings, youth groups, and family reunions. The campground features electric hookups at each site, flush toilets, and drinking water to ensure a comfortable camping experience. A dump station and shower house are conveniently located nearby at the North Sandusky Campground entrance and Maple loop. The area is heavily populated with mature forests of hickory, oak, and maple trees that provide habitat for white-tail deer, turkey, raccoons, waterfowl, and other native wildlife species that roam through the surrounding woodland. Recreation opportunities abound at Rend Lake. The Rend Lake Bike Trail offers over 20 miles of paved pathways through scenic woodlands with views of the lake and Big Muddy River. The lake provides excellent fishing for crappie and other species, along with boating, swimming, and hiking. Additional nearby amenities include North Sandusky Disc Golf, an archery complex with a 3D trail, a dog park with swimming area, and two public beaches including the pet-friendly North Marcum Beach.

Directions

From I-57 take exit 77 and turn west onto Route 154. Turn south onto Rend City Road and continue straight into North Sandusky Campground. Shagbark Group Area is located in the back portion of the campground.
