Shagbark Group Area sits along the western shore of Rend Lake near Sandusky cove, tucked within North Sandusky Campground in Franklin County, Illinois. This USACE-managed facility is designed for larger gatherings, accommodating up to 200 campers and 50 vehicles. The area rents as a single unit, eliminating drop-in campers and ensuring group privacy. Sites feature 30-amp electric hookups, fire pits, picnic tables, grills, and lantern hangers beneath a full shade canopy of mature forest. The group area includes its own restroom with flush toilets and drinking water. Hot showers and an RV dump station are available at the North Sandusky Campground facilities near the entrance. The surrounding mature forest is home to deer and turkey that frequently roam through the campground. Rend Lake offers extensive recreation including over 20 miles of paved bike trails, boat ramps, fishing, swimming, and hunting. The nearby North Sandusky Day Use Area features picnic shelters and a disc golf course. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From I-57 take exit 77 and turn west onto Route 154. Turn south onto Rend City Road and continue straight into North Sandusky Campground. Shagbark Group Area is located in the back portion of the campground.
