About

North Marcum Day Use Area sits along the scenic banks of Rend Lake in Franklin County, Illinois. This day-use facility is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and provides a variety of recreational opportunities without overnight camping. The area features two large picnic shelters that can each accommodate up to 75 guests, complete with picnic tables, grills, and drinking water. Visitors can enjoy a swimming beach that includes a designated pet-friendly section where dogs are welcome to swim alongside their owners. A boat ramp and dock provide water access for boating, fishing, and paddling on the 20,633-acre lake known for excellent crappie fishing. A playground offers recreation for families. The area connects to over 20 miles of paved bike trails winding through woodlands with views of Rend Lake and the Big Muddy River. Wildlife viewing opportunities include waterfowl, shorebirds, deer, and wild turkeys. This is strictly a day-use facility; overnight camping is not allowed here, though several campgrounds exist elsewhere around Rend Lake.
