North Marcum Day Use Area is located on the banks of Rend Lake, a 20,633-acre reservoir in the heart of Southern Illinois. This day use facility offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors seeking outdoor adventure or a peaceful lakeside retreat. The area features two large picnic shelters with electric hookups, tables, grills, and drinking water, each capable of accommodating up to 75 guests. The swimming beach is a highlight of the facility, offering designated areas for both swimmers and pet owners, with a special dog-friendly section where visitors can enjoy the water with their pets. Additional amenities include a boat ramp for easy lake access, a playground for children, and a dock for fishing or enjoying lake views. The area connects to the Rend Lake Bike Trail, providing over 20 miles of paved pathways that wind through scenic woodlands and offer views of Rend Lake and the Big Muddy River. The surrounding landscape consists of hickory, oak, and maple woodlands that provide habitat for white-tailed deer, turkeys, raccoons, and numerous native species. The shorelines offer excellent viewing opportunities for waterfowl and shorebirds, as well as bank fishing access to the lake's crappie population. Nearby attractions include the North Marcum Archery Complex, Rend Lake Mountain Bike Trail, and the Rend Lake Golf Complex featuring 27 holes.

Directions

From I-57 exit 77, go west on IL Route 154 for 0.25 miles. Turn left onto Gun Creek Trail. Go south 3 miles to Marcum Branch Road. Turn right on Marcum Branch Road. Go 1.5 miles to park entrance.
