South Fork Campground

Closed

Closed indefinitely due to extensive flood and landslide damage from winter storms. The access road is impassable to vehicles. Road repairs were planned but no reopening date has been announced.

About

South Fork Campground sits at 3,600 feet elevation in a remote, quiet section of Sequoia National Park's foothills, along the South Fork of the Kaweah River. This primitive campground offers a secluded experience away from the main park highways and popular giant sequoia groves. The area features hot, dry summers and cool, rainy winters with occasional snow. The campground is tent-only with no hookups or dump stations. Each site includes a bear-proof food storage locker. Vault toilets are available year-round, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. When fire restrictions are not in effect, campfires are permitted in fire rings. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed at all times and are prohibited on trails. The campground and its access road were heavily damaged by floods and landslides from winter storms. The dirt portion of South Fork Road is currently impassable to vehicles. A repair project was planned, but no reopening date has been confirmed.

Directions

Take Highway 198 to the town of Three Rivers. Five miles before the main Sequoia park entrance, turn onto South Fork Road and travel east for 12.3 miles. The paved road ends shortly before the campground, with a rough dirt road continuing to the campsites and Ladybug Trailhead. Note: The dirt road is currently impassable due to storm damage.
