Mountain Home Guard Sta Recreation Renta
Closed — The cabin rental is currently closed under a forest-issued closure until further notice.
About
The Mountain Home Guard Station is a historic cabin rental built in the early 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a residence for Forest Service fire patrolmen. Located at 6,000 feet elevation in the Giant Sequoia National Monument within Sequoia National Forest, the cabin sits in a cluster of firs, pines, and giant sequoias approximately two hours from Bakersfield, California. The exterior is constructed of redwood board over diagonal sheeting nailed to a standard wooden frame, and the cabin still retains many of its original features, including kitchen cabinets and wood floors. The cabin is situated on the edges of the Golden Trout Wilderness and close to the Tule River. The area offers numerous recreational opportunities including horseback riding from the nearby Balch Park Pack Station, hunting, mountain biking, and hiking. Fishing enthusiasts can access several nearby ponds and the Tule River. The nearest store is approximately one hour away in Springville, so guests must plan accordingly and bring all necessary supplies for their stay.
Directions
From Springville, California, take Highway 190 east for approximately 15 miles. Turn left onto Balch Park Road and continue for about 16 miles to the Mountain Home Guard Station, located within the Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest.
