About
Potwisha Campground is situated along the Generals Highway in the foothills of Sequoia National Park at 2,100 feet elevation, just 3.7 miles from the Ash Mountain entrance. The campground sits along the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River under an open canopy of oak trees, offering convenient access to numerous park attractions. The foothills ecosystem features more biological diversity than the high sierra forests, with oaks, chaparral, and river canyons supporting wildlife including black bears, mule deer, bobcats, and numerous bird species. The campground provides 42 sites suitable for tents, RVs, and trailers up to 24 feet, including pull-through sites. Two sites (39 and 40) are ADA accessible with extended picnic tables, wheelchair-accessible grills, hard-packed tent pads, and accessible food storage containers. The Marble Falls trailhead is adjacent to the campground, and river access is a short walk across the street. The Giant Forest, home to Earth's largest trees including General Sherman, is within a 45-minute drive. Crystal Caves are approximately one hour away. Winters are mild and generally snow-free, while summers are hot and dry, often requiring fire restrictions. The campground operates year-round except during weather or safety closures. All sites are reservation-only, available up to four months in advance through Recreation.gov. Bear-proof food storage lockers are provided at each site.
