About

Wishon Cabin sits amid oaks and pines in the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains within Sequoia National Forest's Giant Sequoia National Monument. Originally constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps to house Forest Service fire patrol and recreation workers, this historic cabin is now available for public rental about 45 minutes from Porterville, California. The one-story cabin features two bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with two twins), plus a living room futon that accommodates two additional guests, for a maximum occupancy of six. The fully equipped kitchen includes a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, cookware, and dishes. The bathroom has a flush toilet and tub-shower combination. Electric heat keeps the cabin comfortable during cooler seasons. Guests must bring their own bedding, towels, and food, as potable drinking water is not available on-site. The cabin is within walking distance of the Doyle Springs Trailhead, which travels north along the Middle Fork Tule River through the Wishon Grove of giant sequoias toward Mountain Home State Forest. Popular activities include hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. A campfire ring and outdoor picnic table are provided; campfire permits are required.

Directions

From Porterville, California, take Highway 190 east. Continue through Springville for approximately 8 miles to Wishon Drive. Turn left and travel about 4 miles. The cabin is at the entrance to Wishon Campground on the right hand side of the road.
