About
Wishon Cabin sits at 3,900 feet elevation amid oaks and pines in the Sequoia National Forest, about an hour drive from Springville. Originally built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the cabin once housed Forest Service fire patrol and recreation workers and is now available as a rental. The cabin comes fully furnished with couches, tables, chairs, beds with mattresses, and a complete kitchen with dishes, glasses, tableware, pots, and pans. Indoor amenities include a bathroom with tub/shower, sink, and toilet. Cook stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, and room heaters operate on electricity or propane. Outside, the cabin features a BBQ/fire ring and picnic tables. Guests need to bring their own bedding, bath towels, and food. Wishon Cabin is within walking distance to the Doyle Springs Trailhead, which travels north along the Middle Fork Tule River through the Wishon Grove of giant sequoias and eventually reaches Mountain Home State Forest. The area offers fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, and hunting. Additional guests can camp at the adjacent Wishon Campground. Due to the elevation, visitors should prepare for warm afternoons, chilly nights, afternoon thunderstorms, and occasional snow dustings during fall and winter months.
Directions
From Porterville, take Highway 190 east. Continue through Springville for approximately 8 miles to Wishon Drive. Turn left and travel about 4 miles. The cabin is at the entrance to Wishon Campground on the right side of the road.
