About

Buckeye Flat Campground sits at 2,800 feet in the Sierra Foothills region of Sequoia National Park, just six miles from the Ash Mountain Entrance Station. The campground is perched above the rushing Middle Fork of the Kaweah River, with most sites offering the sound of the water. Large live oaks provide shade throughout the campground, a welcome feature during the hot, dry summers typical of this lower elevation zone. The 27 tent-only sites each include a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage locker. Flush toilets and potable water are available when the campground is operational. RVs and trailers are not permitted due to road restrictions. The Paradise Creek Trail departs directly from the campground, and the Middle Fork Trail is nearby. This foothills zone has more biological diversity than the higher conifer forests, with oaks, chaparral, and river canyons supporting black bears, mule deer, bobcats, and numerous bird species. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the Giant Forest, Moro Rock, Crystal Cave, and other Sequoia National Park attractions.

Directions

From Visalia, follow Highway 198 East for 36 miles to the Ash Mountain Entrance Station. The campground is 6 miles beyond the entrance station, across from Hospital Rock. Vehicles longer than 22 feet are not advised on the road between Potwisha Campground and Giant Forest Museum.
