About

Buckeye Flat Campground is located in Sequoia National Park's foothills at 2,800 feet elevation, where the grassy valley floor gives way to granite peaks. The campground sits above the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River, shaded by a stand of large live oaks. This area features more biological diversity than the conifer forests and High Sierra combined, with oaks, chaparral, and river canyons supporting wildlife including American black bears, mule deer, bobcats, and numerous bird species. The campground offers 27 tent-only sites, all reservation-only through Recreation.gov. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage locker. Sites 20 and 24 are designated as accessible, with extended picnic tables, level tent pads on hard-packed surfaces, and accessible parking. The campground provides flush toilets and drinking water seasonally. Located just 6 miles from the Ash Mountain Entrance Station on Generals Highway, Buckeye Flat serves as a convenient base for exploring Sequoia National Park. The Giant Forest, home to the world's largest trees, is within a 30-minute drive. Paradise Creek Trail departs from the campground, and the Middle Fork Trail is nearby. Crystal Cave is about 45 minutes away. The campground typically operates from late March through September, though summer fire restrictions are often in effect due to hot, dry conditions.

Directions
