About

Horse Creek Campground is located on the Kaweah River in the foothills of central California's Sierra Nevada Mountains, three miles east of Lemon Cove. Operated by the Army Corps of Engineers, the campground features 80 non-hookup sites spread across multiple loops including standard sites and equestrian sites. The setting is a broad, arid valley with limited tree cover and shade. Lake Kaweah provides excellent opportunities for boating, water skiing, sailing, and fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, and rainbow trout. When lake water levels are low, equestrian and walking trails become available. The campground includes an amphitheater that hosts weekend interpretive programs from May through September. The campground is conveniently located 11 miles from Sequoia National Park's southern entrance, providing access to the Giant Forest Grove and General Sherman Tree. Note that vehicles over 22 feet are not permitted on Highway 198 through Sequoia National Park due to narrow switchbacks; larger vehicles must use the northern route via Highway 180.
