About

Cold Springs Campground occupies one of the most remote and scenic locations in Sequoia National Park. At 7,500 feet elevation in the Mineral King valley, it offers tent campers access to dramatic sub-alpine landscapes and trailheads leading to alpine lakes, mountain passes, and peaks. The campground includes 31 standard sites and 9 walk-in sites positioned 100-200 yards from the parking area, all set among aspen groves and conifers. The 23-mile Mineral King Road is narrow, steep, winding, and mostly unpaved, making the journey to this campground an adventure in itself. RVs and trailers are not permitted on the road or in the campground. Marmots are notoriously active in Mineral King during spring and early summer and will chew through vehicle wiring and radiator hoses, so protective measures are recommended. Each site has a bear-proof food storage locker (47"W x 33"D x 28"H). Black bears are active day and night in this area, and proper food storage is mandatory. Limited services are available at Silver City Resort, 2.5 miles west of the campground.

Directions

From Highway 198 in Three Rivers, take Mineral King Road 23 miles east to the campground. The road is narrow, winding, steep, deeply rutted in sections, and mostly unpaved. Allow 1.5 hours for the drive. Not advised for longer vehicles. RVs and trailers are not permitted.
