About
Cold Springs Campground is the highest elevation campground in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks at 7,500 feet, located in the remote Mineral King area. The campground features 40 sites, including 31 regular tent sites and 9 walk-in sites located approximately 100-200 yards from parking areas. Nestled among aspen trees and conifers near the Mineral King Ranger Station, the campground provides a base for exploring the stunning Mineral King backcountry. Access requires a 90-minute drive on the narrow, winding, mostly unpaved Mineral King Road from Highway 198. The challenging 23-mile road is steep and deeply rutted in sections, making it unsuitable for RVs and trailers, which are not permitted in the campground. Each campsite includes a bear-proof food storage locker, fire ring, and picnic table. Limited services are available at Silver City Resort, 2.5 miles west of the campground. The location offers exceptional access to alpine wilderness, with trails to mountain lakes and high passes beginning nearby. Black bears are active in the area, requiring proper food storage in provided metal lockers. The high elevation means three-season camping conditions even in summer, with weather that can change rapidly.
