Kings Mountain State Park Campground sits in York County's Piedmont region, approximately 40 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. As one of 16 South Carolina State Parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the park combines historical significance with modern camping facilities. The main campground features 115 sites, each with individual water and electric hookups on packed gravel pads. Several sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. Hot showers and restroom facilities are centrally located throughout the campground. For specialized camping, the park offers 15 equestrian campsites with 20/30/50-amp electrical service, two corrals per site, and privy toilets nearby. These sites are reserved exclusively for guests with horses. Six designated hammock and tent sites provide a more primitive experience, with three sites including shelters and electricity. All sites feature picnic tables, fire rings, and charcoal grills. Primitive group camping is also available by contacting the park directly. The campground serves as a base for exploring miles of wooded trails, two fishing lakes with boat rentals, and the park's popular Living History Farm. Park gates are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, extended to 9 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time. Campers are limited to 14 consecutive nights and must vacate for 7 nights before returning.
