About

Poulous Loop Group Campground sits within the Enoree Ranger District of Sumter National Forest in Chester County, South Carolina, at an elevation of 400-500 feet. This reservation-only group facility is surrounded by acres of pine-hardwood forest and gently rolling piedmont terrain, providing year-round camping opportunities in a climate characterized by long, hot summers (high 80s to high 90s) and mild winters (low 40s to upper 60s). The campground features a large grassy area within a mature pine stand that provides ample shade and plenty of room for various camping setups. The graveled campground loop road provides access to natural grassy areas on either side, suitable for RVs, trailers, horse trailers, and tent camping. Equestrians will appreciate the abundant space for highlining horses or setting up portable stalls. The facility can accommodate groups of 1-100 people with up to 15 vehicles (a vehicle plus camper or horse trailer counts as one vehicle). Amenities are limited to a vault toilet and fire pit, maintaining the rustic character of the site. There is no potable water, electricity, or wifi, and cell coverage is sporadic. Despite the primitive nature of the facilities, the open layout makes it ideal for group activities and field games. The surrounding forest sustains abundant wildlife populations, making this one of South Carolina's most desirable hunting areas for big-game deer and turkey seasons. The Woods Ferry Horse Trail system, a 26-mile network that parallels the Broad River corridor and meanders through upland pine and hardwood drains, is easily accessed via Forest Service gravel road 301F. The trail welcomes horses, hikers, and mountain bikers. Additional nearby attractions include the Leeds Outdoor Shooting Range and Woods Ferry Picnic Area on the Broad River.
