About

Chester State Park has been a haven for hiking, picnicking, boating, and fishing in the South Carolina Piedmont since it was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The park centers on a 160-acre lake surrounded by a two-mile nature trail through the pine forest, offering a serene escape midway between Columbia and Charlotte. The campground features 25 packed gravel sites with individual water and 50-amp electrical hookups. Sites accommodate RVs ranging from 28 to 33 feet, with three pull-through sites available. Each site includes a fire ring, lantern holder, picnic table, and picnic pad. For those seeking a more primitive experience, the park offers 5 hike-in tent sites located just 0.1 miles from a parking area, each equipped with water, a grill/fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad. The park also features jon boat rentals for exploring the lake, a disc golf course, and a community building. Lakeview Hall serves as a popular venue for weddings and events. A primitive group camping area accommodates organized groups of up to 50 people. With its combination of modern amenities and natural beauty, Chester State Park provides an unusually serene setting for campers seeking a peaceful getaway in the Piedmont region.
