About
Woods Ferry Campground occupies a wooded floodplain along the Broad River in Chester County, surrounded by upland pine and maturing hardwood forests typical of the South Carolina piedmont. The campground offers 15 single sites, one double site, and one group site, with 10 sites featuring horse corrals for equestrian campers. All sites are primitive with no hookups, but centrally located water spigots and vault toilets serve the area. The campground provides direct access to the 26-mile Woods Ferry Horse Trail, open to horses, hikers, and mountain bikers. The trail traverses hardwood drains and runs along the Broad River, passing wild azaleas, dogwoods, and old homesites. Wildlife viewing opportunities include red-shouldered hawks, great blue herons, osprey, wood ducks, barred owls, and bald eagles. The adjacent Woods Ferry Recreation Area includes a day-use picnic area with shelters and grills, three fishing platforms on the Broad River, and a boat ramp. Boating and kayaking access is available downstream from Neal Shoals Dam. Hunting is permitted on surrounding national forest lands with appropriate South Carolina licenses.
