The campground is open. High Shoals Falls Loop and waterfall viewing areas remain closed due to hazards from hurricane damage. Shinny Creek and Upper Falls backcountry sites are unavailable. Clear Creek Access is closed for construction of a new entrance road and parking area.

In western North Carolina, the following counties: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, McDowell, Polk, Rutherford, Haywood, Henderson, Macon, Mitchell, Jackson, Transylvania and Yancey. In Upstate South Carolina, the following counties: Abbeville, Anderson, Central Greenville, Greater Oconee, Greater Pickens, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Spartanburg, and Oconee. * WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - As the remnants of Isaias move northward into the lower Ohio Valley, periods of rain will continue. High rainfall rates will continue in short bursts through the overnight hours. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Southeastern Avery County in western North Carolina... Northwestern Burke County in western North Carolina... Northwestern Caldwell County in western North Carolina... * WHEN...Until 230 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 822 PM EDT, Light to moderate showers are moving from south to north across the northern Blue Ridge escarpment and vicinity, with heavier showers approaching from the south. Rainfall of the 2-4 inches have fallen over the past 12 hours. The rainfall has accumulated steadily, allowing soils to slowly saturate and runoff to slowly increase, resulting in steady rises in area streams including the Linville River, Wilson Creek, Johns River, Mulberry Creek and Warrior Fork Creek. - Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the next few hours and the threat will persist through the early morning hours on Sunday. These showers and storms will be very efficient at producing heavy rainfall. Soils are saturated and streams are swollen. Therefore, additional heavy rain may quickly create new areas of flooding and cause previous areas of flooding to redevelop. As a result, Flash Flood Warnings may be issued tonight. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground immediately if heavy rain develops. Please have a plan in place should flash flooding develop and do not hesitate to act. Please heed all evacuation orders from Emergency Management officials. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Located 55 miles east of Asheville in Burke County, South Mountains State Park sits at the crossroads of the Appalachian Mountains and the Foothills. The campground at Jacob Fork Access provides tent, trailer, and RV camping with some sites offering electric hookups, as well as a dedicated equestrian campground with horse stalls and a horse barn. Backcountry camping is available at several primitive sites including Little River, Sawtooth, Jacob Branch, Fox Trail, and Murray Branch. Facilities include a bathhouse with showers and vault toilets, with at least one wheelchair-accessible campsite adjacent to the accessible shower house. The park features over 40 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and bridle trails, along with the scenic Jacob Fork River. A visitor center at the main entrance provides information and orientation. Reservations are available through the NC State Parks reservation system. Note that the High Shoals Falls Loop trail and waterfall viewing areas remain closed due to hurricane damage, and some backcountry sites (Shinny Creek, Upper Falls) are temporarily unavailable.
Directions
From I-40, take exit 105 onto Hwy 18 South. Travel approximately 6 miles and turn right on River Road. Continue 3 miles, then turn left on Walker Chapel Road. Travel 0.9 miles and turn right on Rock Falls Road, then continue 1.6 miles and turn right on Sugarloaf Road to reach Jacob Fork Access at 3001 South Mountain Park Ave, Connelly Springs, NC 28612.
