Hunting Island State Park Campground

Open — Open year-round with reservations available through South Carolina State Parks. Park gates open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, extended to 9:00 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time. The lighthouse is currently closed for repairs with weekday construction noise possible in that area.

Hunting Island State Park Campground sits on a semitropical barrier island 15 miles east of Beaufort, offering campers direct access to one of America's top-rated beaches. The main campground features 102 sites with individual water and electrical hookups (20/30 and 50 amp service), paved roads, and packed soil sites. RV campers can find sites accommodating rigs up to 40 feet, while others accommodate units up to 28 feet. For tent campers, 25 designated walk-in sites provide a more secluded experience with tent pads, fire rings, picnic tables, and centralized water. These sites are located a short walk from both the parking area and the ocean. All campsites are convenient to restrooms with hot showers. A primitive group camping area is also available for organized groups of up to 30 people, featuring picnic tables, central water, and nearby restrooms. The campground provides access to miles of pristine beach, maritime forest trails, a nature center, and the historic Hunting Island Lighthouse (currently closed for repairs). A campground store operates daily, and the park attracts over a million visitors annually to its 5,000-acre barrier island setting.
