About
Buck Hall Recreation Area occupies a prime waterfront location along the Intracoastal Waterway in the Francis Marion National Forest. The grassy, open campground sits at sea level with limited tree cover, offering views of fishing boats and pleasure craft traveling the waterway. The recreation area provides excellent access to Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, encompassing 65,000 acres of marsh, tidal creeks, and beaches, as well as Bulls Bay, considered the coast's best shrimp baiting area. The campground features 14 standard electric sites with water and electric hookups priced at $28/night, plus 5 tent-only sites at $20/night. Each site includes a picnic table, lantern post, and campfire ring with grill. Amenities include accessible flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station. A lighted parking area, boat ramp with floating docks, and fish cleaning station serve anglers and boaters. A section of the Palmetto Trail, a cross-state route from the coast to the mountains, is accessible from the recreation area. Most of the trail is unpaved and open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
