Special Weather Statement issued January 18 at 10:03PM EST by NWS Charleston SC

January 18th, 10:03 PM — 9:00 AM

Lingering moisture and puddles from earlier rainfall will create patchy black ice on area roads during the overnight and early morning hours. Icy spots could form on paved surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, primary and secondary roads, parking lots, sidewalks and driveways. Black ice is difficult to see and distinguish from dry surfaces. The deceptive nature of black ice can catch you unaware while you are driving or walking, causing you to lose control of your motor vehicle or to slip and fall.

About

Colleton State Park is South Carolina's smallest state park at just 35 acres, originally built as a wayside park in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Located along U.S. Highway 15 between St. George and Walterboro, the park sits on the banks of the Edisto River, one of the longest blackwater rivers in the country. The campground offers 25 sites with full hookups including individual water, 20/30/50 amp electrical service, and sewer connections. Sites accommodate RVs ranging from 25 to 40 feet in length on packed sand pads with paved access roads. The park is a popular destination for paddlers, with the Edisto River connecting Colleton to Givhans Ferry State Park 23 miles downstream. Fishing, canoeing, and kayaking are popular activities on the peaceful blackwater river. The campground provides restrooms with hot showers and Wi-Fi access near the bathhouse that covers most of the camping area. A short Cypress Swamp Nature Trail allows visitors to explore the lowcountry environment. Located just five minutes from I-95, Colleton State Park makes an ideal stopover for travelers heading to the South Carolina coast or a relaxing weekend getaway. The park also features picnic shelters, a ballfield, and a primitive group camping area for organized groups up to 50 people. Non-campers can access the river for a day-use fee.
