Skidaway Island State Park sits on 588 acres along Skidaway Narrows, part of Georgia's Intracoastal Waterway, offering a scenic retreat just 20 minutes from downtown Savannah. The campground features 87 spacious sites nestled beneath live oaks draped with Spanish moss, all equipped with electric and water hookups, while 27 sites offer full hookups including sewer. Most sites are pull-through or U-shaped for easy RV maneuvering, and the park is big rig friendly with accommodations for large vehicles. The park's 6 miles of trails wind through lush maritime forest and pristine salt marsh, leading to boardwalks where visitors can observe the diverse coastal ecosystem. Wildlife watching opportunities abound with white-tailed deer, fiddler crabs, raccoons, egrets, and other native species. The park is part of the Colonial Coast Birding Trail, making it popular among birdwatchers. Beyond the main campground, the park offers three pioneer campgrounds for groups of 10 or more, three yurts, and three camper cabins. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, coin-operated laundry, a dump station, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and outdoor fitness equipment. The visitor center provides interpretive programs, and bicycle rentals are available. Tybee Island beaches are less than an hour away for day trips.

Directions

From downtown Savannah, take East President Street to Harry S Truman Parkway. Follow the parkway for 8 miles to GA-204 Spur East/Whitefield Avenue. Continue for 5 miles, then turn left onto Skidaway Island Park Road.
