About

South Campground is a 23-site primitive campground located on Hosmer Lake in the Cascade Lakes area of Deschutes National Forest. The lake is designated fly-fishing-only and is known for Atlantic salmon, brook trout, and rainbow trout that are easily visible in the shallow, clear water. The surrounding landscape features dramatic views of Mt. Bachelor, South Sister, and Broken Top. The campground is best suited for tent campers and smaller RVs, with a maximum spur length of 40 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit with grill. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. A boat ramp with day-use parking is adjacent to the campground. Shore access to Hosmer Lake is limited due to marshy vegetation, making canoes and kayaks the ideal way to explore. The area also offers hiking and horseback riding trails, wildlife viewing, and access to the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway.

Directions

From Bend, travel 35.5 miles southwest on Cascade Lakes Highway (Route 46), then 1.2 miles east on Forest Road 4625. South Campground is on the right.
