About
South Campground is located on Hosmer Lake in the Deschutes National Forest along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. This campground caters to anglers and paddlers seeking a quieter mountain lake experience. Hosmer Lake is designated as fly-fishing only and is well known for its visible populations of Atlantic salmon, brook trout, and rainbow trout in the shallow, clear waters. The lake offers spectacular views of Mt. Bachelor, South Sister, and Broken Top. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits at each site, but campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. Shore access to the lake is limited due to marshy vegetation, making a canoe or kayak the best way to experience the water. A boat ramp is located nearby. The campground can accommodate RVs and trailers with a maximum spur length of 40 feet, though no hookups are available. South Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, which winds 66 miles through the Cascade Range past alpine lakes and snow-capped peaks. Nearby trails offer opportunities for hiking and horseback riding, while wildlife viewing is common in this scenic mountain setting.
Directions
From Bend, travel 35.5 miles southwest on Cascade Lakes Highway (46), then 1.2 miles east on Forest Road 4625. South Campground will be on the right side.
