About

Little Lava Lake Campground is nestled along the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway in the heart of the Central Oregon Cascades, sitting at an elevation of 4,740 feet on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountain Range. The campground is located at the source of the Deschutes River, positioned along the shores of the 130-acre Little Lava Lake, which is surrounded by mature pine forests with bull rushes and lava outcroppings lining its shores. The campground features campsites predominantly located under a lodgepole pine canopy, with select sites positioned along the lakeshore and the Deschutes River. A boat ramp provides access for non-motorized watercraft, making it an ideal location for canoeing and kayaking. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 20 feet and supports populations of planted Rainbow trout, Brook trout, and self-sustaining populations of Whitefish and Tui Chub. Anglers can use bait, lures, flies, still fishing, and trolling methods. The campground offers access to the extensive trail network within Deschutes National Forest, which includes approximately 1,600 miles of trails, wilderness areas, and wild and scenic rivers. Nearby attractions include the Lava Lands Visitor Center in Bend and Newberry National Volcanic Monument. A resort on nearby Lava Lake provides lodging and limited groceries. The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway offers a spectacular 66-mile drive through snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes.
