About
Quinn Meadow Horse Camp is situated along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway in Central Oregon's Cascade Range, between Devils Lake and Elk Lake. As the largest and most popular horse campground in the area, it is specifically designed to accommodate equestrians with corrals at each site. The campground serves as a gateway to extensive trail riding opportunities, including the Quinn Creek Trail which runs west from camp to connect with the Elk-Devils Trail in the Three Sisters Wilderness. The Metolius-Windigo Trail, accessible from the campground, is a 100-mile long-distance trail created in the 1980s as a horseback alternative to the Pacific Crest Trail. Due to its lower elevation, it remains snow-free longer than higher elevation trails and passes through diverse terrain and forest types. Spring-fed Quinn Creek flows adjacent to the campground into Hosmer Lake, and Quinn Meadow spreads south from camp. The area provides habitat for mule deer, coyotes, bears, migratory birds, and native fish. Wilderness permits are required for both day use and overnight trips into the Three Sisters Wilderness from this trailhead. Weed-free feed is required for all horses on the Deschutes National Forest as part of invasive species prevention efforts. The campground is designed specifically for horse campers, and visitors without horses are asked to use other nearby campgrounds.
