About

Mallard Marsh Campground is situated along the reed-lined shores of Hosmer Lake in the Deschutes National Forest, approximately 35 miles southwest of Bend on the scenic Cascade Lakes Highway. This campground is a popular destination for fly-fishing enthusiasts, as Hosmer Lake is a designated fly-fishing-only lake renowned for its crystal-clear, shallow waters and healthy populations of Atlantic salmon, brook trout, and rainbow trout. The lake's clarity allows anglers to see fish in the water, creating a unique fishing experience. The campground provides excellent access for non-motorized boating, with canoes and kayaks being the best way to explore the lake due to limited shore access caused by extensive marshy vegetation along the shoreline. A hardened boat ramp is located nearby at the adjacent South Campground. The setting offers breathtaking views of Mt. Bachelor, South Sister, and Broken Top, making it a photographer's paradise. At the north end of Hosmer Lake, water drains into a porous rim of lava, creating a unique geological feature. Beyond water activities, the area provides opportunities for hiking, horseback riding on nearby trails, and exceptional wildlife viewing and birding. The campground is located along the 66-mile Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, which weaves through the Cascade Range past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes. The remote location and natural beauty attract a loyal following of campers who return year after year.

Directions

From Bend, travel 35.5 miles southwest on Cascade Lakes Highway 46, then 1.3 miles east on Forest Road 4625. South Campground appears first on the right, followed by Mallard Marsh.
