About
Mallard Marsh Campground occupies a scenic position on Hosmer Lake's reed-lined northern shore within Deschutes National Forest. The shallow, crystal-clear lake is managed as fly-fishing-only waters, harboring Atlantic salmon, brook trout, and rainbows that are easily spotted from the surface. Paddlers and anglers enjoy unobstructed views of Mt. Bachelor, South Sister, and Broken Top reflected in the water. The campground offers 14 standard nonelectric sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must pack in their own supply. Maximum site spur length is 40 feet, limiting the campground to smaller RVs and trailers. A hardened boat ramp is located at nearby South Campground. Beyond fishing and paddling, visitors can access nearby trails for hiking and horseback riding. The campground sits along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, a 66-mile route weaving past volcanic peaks and alpine lakes. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov; maximum stay is 14 consecutive days.
Directions
From Bend, travel 35.5 miles southwest on Cascade Lakes Highway (Route 46), then 1.3 miles east on Forest Road 4625. South Campground appears first on the right; Mallard Marsh is just beyond.
