About

Shadow Bay Campground rests on the shores of Waldo Lake at 5,400 feet elevation on the western slopes of the Oregon Cascades. Waldo Lake spans 9.8 square miles with a maximum depth of 427 feet and no permanent inlet, resulting in exceptional purity that allows visibility to 120 feet on calm days. The campground is situated in a wetter microclimate than North Waldo or Islet campgrounds, supporting more prolific groundcover and notably heavier mosquito activity from June through mid-August. The 92-site campground includes standard single and double sites plus three reservable group areas: Group Site B (120 people, 19 vehicles), Group Site C (120 people, 17 vehicles), and Group Site E (30 people, 5 vehicles). A boat ramp provides direct lake access for sailing, canoeing, and swimming. The Shoreline Trail connects to the 22-mile Jim Weaver Loop for hiking and mountain biking, with access to the Waldo Lake Wilderness for hikers only. Views from trails include the snow-capped North, Middle, and South Sisters peaks. Due to the Cedar Creek Fire impact on neighboring campgrounds, Shadow Bay currently operates as the only campground on Waldo Lake's shores.
