About

Ski Island Boat-In Campground is a remote, boat-access only camping destination located on the Pit Arm of Shasta Lake within the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. This free, primitive campground features 29 sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, making it a popular choice for boaters seeking a more secluded camping experience during the summer months. The campground operates as a pack in, pack out facility with vault toilets available but no potable water on site. Campers must treat or filter water from the lake. Access difficulty varies significantly depending on current lake levels, which can fluctuate throughout the season. The nearest USFS boat ramp is Jones Valley, which charges a $17 launch fee. Located at the confluence area of the Pit Arm, Ski Island offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and water sports. The campground's boat-in only access ensures a quieter, more primitive camping experience away from the more developed areas of Shasta Lake. Most recreation sites in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest operate from May 15 through September 15, though some sites may remain open as weather permits.
