Ski Island Boat-in Campground
Open year-round. No fees or reservations required. First-come, first-served. Access varies with lake levels.
About
Ski Island Boat-In Campground offers a true backcountry-style camping experience on Shasta Lake without the need to hike in. Accessible only by boat, this island campground on the Pit Arm features approximately 29 primitive sites scattered around the shoreline, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are distributed around the island, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own or filter from the lake. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility with no trash service, fee, or reservation system. The closest USFS boat launch is Jones Valley, which charges a $17 launch fee. Access difficulty varies significantly with lake levels, so checking current conditions before launching is advisable. The campground is especially popular during summer months when Shasta Lake sees heavy recreational boating activity.
Directions
Boat-access only. Launch from Jones Valley boat ramp ($17 fee) on the Pit Arm of Shasta Lake and navigate to Ski Island near the confluence of the McCloud and Pit Arms.
