Jones Valley Inlet West Dispersed Area provides a rustic lakeside camping experience on the Pit River Arm of Shasta Lake within Shasta-Trinity National Forest. As a dispersed camping area, there are no designated sites, allowing campers to spread out along the shoreline. The area operates on a first-come, first-served basis with same-day occupation required. Payment can be made using the Recreation.gov Scan & Pay app or via the iron ranger on site with cash or check. Seasonal services including portable restrooms and trash receptacles are provided from approximately mid-May through mid-September. Outside this window, the area operates as pack-in/pack-out with no fees charged. Camping is prohibited from December 1-31 and below the high water mark from November 1 through March 1. The area is popular for water-based recreation including water skiing, jet skiing, and fishing. Shasta Lake offers excellent fishing opportunities for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, bass, and other species. A California campfire permit is required during fire season.

Directions

From I-5 northbound, exit at Oasis Road. Turn right at the stop sign and follow the road for about 3 miles. Turn right onto Bear Mountain Road and continue for about 5 miles. Turn left at the stop sign to stay on Bear Mountain Road. Turn right onto Jones Valley Road and follow it to the dispersed area entrance on the left. Located approximately 16 miles north of Redding.
