About
Jones Valley Inlet Dispersed Area is a shoreline camping area located on the Pit River Arm of Shasta Lake within the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. This is not a designated campground with individual sites, but rather an open dispersed camping area along the shoreline. The area provides access to Shasta Lake's 365 miles of shoreline, surrounded by steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreens, with views of snow-capped Mount Shasta in the distance.
The dispersed area operates first-come, first-served year-round with seasonal services. From March 1 through October 31, portable restrooms and trash receptacles are provided for a nightly fee. During winter months, typically mid-September to mid-May, the area operates as pack-in, pack-out with no facilities or fees. Visitors must physically be at the area to purchase and claim a spot the same day they pay. A public boat ramp is located approximately 2 miles away at Jones Valley, and informal mooring is allowed when water levels are sufficient.
Shasta Lake offers excellent fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. The area is popular for water skiing, jet skiing, and other water recreation. During fire season, a valid California campfire permit is required. Wildlife is abundant throughout the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, the largest national forest in California.
