Sheffield Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Operates late May through mid-September annually. After closure, the gate remains open for no-fee camping but water is turned off and restrooms are locked.

About

Sheffield Campground is located in the northeast corner of the Buffalo Ranger District on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, just outside John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. This small, primitive campground sits adjacent to the Teton Wilderness and offers 11 first-come, first-served campsites. The campground is equipped with basic amenities including a single-unit vault toilet, bear-proof food storage boxes at each site, and campfire rings. Non-potable water is available seasonally, but no drinking water is provided so campers must bring their own. The setting offers a quiet, backcountry experience with light usage levels. Recreation opportunities include access to the Sheffield Trailhead, which provides entry into the Teton Wilderness and leads to the historic Huckleberry Lookout. The campground is accessed via a short Forest Service dirt road off Highway 191, just before the Snake River Bridge near Flagg Ranch. Bear food storage is required at all times.
