Colter Bay Campground
Closed — Closed for the season. Typically opens mid-May and closes late September. Reservations available up to six months in advance on Recreation.gov.
Antler Collection Not Permitted Inside Park Boundaries
Elk are shedding their antlers in and around Grand Teton. People visiting or passing through the park must note that it's illegal to take, collect, retrieve, possess, or transport any natural product, including shed antlers, from the park at any time.
Menors Ferry Road Closure
Menors Ferry Road will be closed 7/26/2025 for a special event. Access to the Chapel of the Transfiguration will be walk-in only. Parking is available at Windy Point or Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center.
Fire restrictions in place
Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place. Campfires are only allowed in designated metal fire grates. Teton Interagency Fire has more information.
About
The vast Colter Bay Campground at Colter Bay Village is set amidst towering lodgepole pines just a short, picturesque stroll away from Jackson Lake. The campground offers 324 individual campsites, 10 large group sites accommodating 10+ people, 10 hiker-bicycler sites, and 13 electric-only ADA-accessible sites. Generator loops include H, J, K, M, and O. The campground provides flush toilets, potable water, bear boxes at most sites, and a complimentary dump station. Coin-operated showers and laundry services are available for an additional fee at the Colter Bay Launderette. Colter Bay Village serves as a hub for family activities on the shores of Jackson Lake. The village offers practical amenities including restaurants, a grocery store, and a visitor center housing the David T. Vernon Indian artifacts collection. Recreation opportunities abound with marina rentals for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats, guided fishing trips, horseback riding, and lake cruises to Elk Island. Several hiking trails depart from the area, including routes to Swan Lake, Heron Pond, and Hermitage Point, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Black and grizzly bears, moose, elk, deer, and numerous bird species inhabit the area. Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place, limiting campfires to designated metal fire grates only.
Directions
Heading north from Jackson on US 26/89/191, turn left (west) at Moran Junction. Continue north on US 89/191/287 ten miles to Colter Bay Junction. Turn left (west) and follow the signs. Heading south from Yellowstone on US 89/191/287, continue 20 miles south. Turn right (west) at Colter Bay Junction and follow the signs.
