About

Lizard Creek Campground occupies a scenic location on Fonda Point along the northern shore of Jackson Lake in Grand Teton National Park. This 60-site campground sits within a spruce, fir, and lodgepole pine forest and provides a quieter alternative to more developed park campgrounds. The remote setting offers stunning views of the northern Teton Range, including Webb Canyon, Owl Peak, and Ranger Peak across the lake, with the full expanse of the Teton Range visible to the south. The campground serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, situated 18 miles north of Moran Junction and just 11 miles south of Yellowstone's South Entrance. While no trails depart directly from the campground, numerous hiking opportunities exist at nearby Colter Bay (7 miles south) and within Yellowstone. Jackson Lake provides excellent opportunities for trout fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, though the campground itself has no boat ramp. Boat ramps and rentals are available at Signal Mountain Lodge. The area is rich with wildlife including red fox, coyotes, black and grizzly bears, mule deer, bald eagles, and osprey. Proper food storage in provided bear boxes is strictly enforced. The campground typically operates from mid-June through early September and is one of the last to open and first to close in the park due to its northern location and elevation. All sites must be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov up to six months ahead.
