About
Shawnee Creek Campground is a backcountry camping area located at the confluence of Shawnee Creek and the Jacks Fork River within Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The campground offers a mix of sunny and shaded sites, with three standard nonelectric sites suitable for small RVs or tents, and three tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Vault toilets are available year-round, though campers must bring their own water. The shallow, clear waters of Shawnee Creek make it a favorite spot for families to explore, and a canoe launch provides direct access to the Jacks Fork River for paddling. The nearby open field is one of the premier locations in the park for observing wild horses, a cultural resource that frequently grazes and runs through the area. Access requires approximately 2 miles of gravel road driving, with a horse staging area located near the campground entrance. The campground operates on a reservation-only basis through Recreation.gov's Scan & Pay system, requiring the mobile app for payment.
Directions
From Eminence, head east on Highway 106. After 3 miles, cross the bridge over Shawnee Creek. Take the next left onto County Road 106-211. Follow this gravel road for about 2 miles until it dead-ends at the campground. A horse staging area is near the intersection just before the campground.
