About
Step off the beaten path to explore Sharps Creek Recreation Site, a delightful gem nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, 18 miles southeast of Cottage Grove. This small Bureau of Land Management campground offers 12 campsites shaded by Douglas fir, western hemlock, red cedar, and big leaf maple trees, with an understory of rhododendron, ferns, and salal.
The recreation site features a day-use picnicking area and a natural swimming hole formed among rounded boulders at the base of an overlook extending above Sharps Creek. The cool, refreshing waters provide a perfect spot to cool down during summer visits. The area has historic ties to the Bohemia Mining District, and recreational gold panning is permitted within the recreation site. The diverse forest environment is home to varied wildlife including deer, elk, black bear, and numerous bird species from pileated woodpeckers to Oregon juncos.
There is no cellular service at the site, so visitors should plan accordingly. The Row River National Recreation Trail and Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway are located less than 4 miles northwest, and Dorena Lake is nearby for additional recreation opportunities.
