About

Rujada Campground is located 21 miles east of Cottage Grove on a riverside terrace above Layng Creek in the Umpqua National Forest. Sitting at approximately 1,200 feet elevation among Douglas fir, hardwood trees, and ferns, this quiet campground offers a peaceful retreat with modern amenities. The campground features 12 standard campsites plus 3 double campsites, each equipped with picnic tables, fire pits or grills, and tent pads. A historic Civilian Conservation Corps shelter, playground with swings and monkey bars, and large day-use picnic area make this an excellent choice for families. The 1.8-mile Swordfern Trail begins at the day-use area and loops around the campground, crossing a wooden footbridge and winding through lush swordfern understory along Layng Creek before following an abandoned logging road back to camp. Shorter loop options are available. Swimming is popular on the banks of Layng Creek, and the campground provides easy access to fishing and wildlife viewing. The area is rich with wildflowers including pioneer violet and wild iris. Nearby attractions include three spectacular waterfall trails within 10 miles. Spirit Falls is a challenging 0.4-mile hike to a 60-foot waterfall, Moon Falls offers an easy 0.5-mile walk to a 125-foot cascading waterfall, and Pinard Falls is a more difficult 0.6-mile trek to a 105-foot waterfall. All three can be visited in a single day. The campground is operated by a concessionaire under permit from the Umpqua National Forest, and a campground host is typically on duty during the summer season.
