About
Rujada Campground is a quiet, family-friendly campground located 21 miles east of Cottage Grove on a riverside terrace above Layng Creek in the Umpqua National Forest. Sitting at approximately 1,200 feet elevation among Douglas fir, hardwoods, and ferns, the campground offers 12 shaded campsites with picnic tables, fire pits or grills, and tent pads. A historic Civilian Conservation Corps shelter and playground with swings, teeter-totter, and monkey bars are located within the campground. The 1.8-mile Swordfern Trail starts at the day use area and loops around the campground, following Layng Creek over a wooden footbridge and through lush swordfern understory. Layng Creek offers swimming access directly from the campground. Within 10 miles are three spectacular waterfall trails: Spirit Falls (0.4 miles to a 60-foot waterfall), Moon Falls (0.5 miles to a 125-foot cascading waterfall), and Pinard Falls (0.6 miles to a 105-foot waterfall). The campground is operated by a concessionaire under permit from the Umpqua National Forest. Amenities include flush toilets and potable water from faucets, but no showers, dump station, or hookups. A campground host is typically onsite during summer season with firewood available for purchase.
