About
Mineral Camp is a small, rustic campground with three campsites situated along Sharps Creek in the Cottage Grove Ranger District of Umpqua National Forest. Surrounded by a stand of Douglas fir, this quiet campground sits at the base of the historic Hardscrabble Grade and was once a stopover place for miners before they started up the long, steep grade to the Bohemia Mining District. The campground is free to use and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Campers will find vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors should bring their own water or be prepared to treat or filter water from Sharps Creek. Each site features a fire pit, and campfires are permitted only in the developed fire pits. The campground sees light use, making it ideal for those seeking a more secluded camping experience. Access to Mineral Camp requires traveling 2 miles on gravel roads, with the last portion of Sharps Creek Road 2460 being unpaved. The campground serves as a trailhead for both Fairview Creek Trail and Hardscrabble Trail, which begin near the vault toilet. Quiet hours are enforced between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and the maximum stay is 14 days. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on leash.
Directions
From Cottage Grove, travel east on Row River Road 2400 for 15 miles to Sharps Creek Road 2460. Turn right on Sharps Creek Road 2460 and continue for 10 miles. Turn left and continue onto the gravel portion of Sharps Creek Road 2460 for 2 miles. Mineral Camp is located on the right side of the road.
