About
Musick Guard Station offers a unique glimpse into Oregon's historic mining past. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, this guard station served as an important fire protection outpost and administrative center for the Bohemia Mining district. The station was named after the nearby Musick Mine, one of the most productive gold mines in the district during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the deep brown two-story cabin nearly blends into the surrounding tall timbers. The main floor features a central room with an adjoining kitchen and bedroom, while the upstairs bunkroom provides additional sleeping quarters. Furnishings include two double wooden platform beds and four bunk beds. The kitchen is equipped with a wood cook stove and oven for cooking and heat. Guests must bring their own mattresses or sleeping pads, kitchen utensils, firewood, and most importantly, all drinking water as none is available on site. A vault toilet is located outside the cabin. The surrounding landscape features rugged summits reaching 6,000 feet elevation with steep slopes covered in fir, spruce, and hemlock. Nearby Bohemia Mountain Trail leads to dramatic Cascade Range views, and the historic Musick Mine provides an interesting side trip for history enthusiasts.
