Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT

December 29th, 1:04 PM — 1:00 AM

Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.

About

Sharp Bridge Campground occupies a prime location on the west shore of the Schroon River in the town of North Hudson, Essex County. Established in 1920 with a single campsite and expanded to 40 sites over the following years, it is one of the two oldest DEC campgrounds in New York State. The campground serves as an ideal base camp for hikers exploring the renowned Adirondack High Peaks region, with the East Mill Flow Trail beginning within the campground and providing access to the extensive Hammond Pond Wild Forest trail system. The campground accommodates tents and RVs up to 45 feet in length, though the sites are more suited to tent camping and smaller rigs given their rustic nature. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and drinking water spigots throughout the campground. No hookups are available. The Schroon River flows through the property and is annually stocked with brown and brook trout. Located just 3 miles from I-87 Exit 30, Sharp Bridge offers convenient access to other Adirondack attractions including Lake Placid and the Olympic venues to the northwest, and the Lake Champlain region to the east. Nearby paddling opportunities include Courtney Pond and Dead Water Pond (canoes only) 3 miles away, and larger boat launches at Schroon Lake and Paradox Lake within 10-20 miles.
