About
Scaroon Manor Campground occupies a historic site on the west shore of Schroon Lake at Taylor's Point, with 1,200 feet of shoreline on the lake. Prior to New York State's acquisition in 1967, the property operated as an elite resort featuring golf, swimming, boating, an amphitheater, and numerous other amenities. The 1957 film Marjorie Morningstar, starring Gene Kelly and Natalie Wood, was filmed on the grounds. Today the campground offers 60 campsites, including 2 with tent platforms. The facility was designed and constructed to be fully accessible to people with disabilities, with most recreation features, campsites, restrooms, and shower buildings meeting accessibility standards. Four campsites (Sites 1, 15, 21, and 45) are designated accessible sites. Amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, recycling center, boat docks, fishing pier, kayak rentals, picnic area, picnic pavilion, and a swimming beach. Schroon Lake supports largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, bullhead, and pickerel. Motor boats, rowboats, and canoes are permitted, with kayak and canoe rentals available on-site. A 0.2-mile accessible trail along the shoreline features a gentle grade, wide tread, and crushed stone surface. The campground is located in Warren County near the Town of Chester border with Essex County, with nearby attractions including restaurants, antique shops, and Stone Bridge and Caves about 1.5 miles south.
