About

Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area is a modern DEC facility built on the site of the former Frontier Town Western theme park in North Hudson. Opened in 2019 as part of a $19 million state investment, the campground spans 91 acres along the shores of the Schroon River and serves as a gateway to the Adirondacks at Exit 29 of the Northway. The campground features 77 total campsites designed to accommodate various camping experiences. The equestrian area includes 19 sites with electric hookups, fireplaces, and two horse tie stalls per site, plus a stud stall providing capacity for up to 66 horses. Two ADA-compliant horse mounting ramps and a pavilion with electrical outlets serve equestrian campers. The RV and trailer area offers 13 sites with electric hookups, while the multi-use Prairie Junction area provides 45 sites for tents, RVs, and trailers, including three group camping sites that accommodate up to 12 people each. Facilities include multiple shower buildings with flush toilets, a dump station, firewood and ice sales, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions with grills. Electric vehicle charging stations are available in the seasonal day-use and Prairie camping areas. The campground features approximately 2 miles of accessible trails leading to four viewpoints along the Schroon River and an oxbow wetland. The facility was designed to be fully accessible to people with disabilities, with five ADA-compliant campsites and accessible restrooms, showers, trails, and recreation features throughout.

Directions

Take Exit 29 off the Northway (I-87). Turn right onto Blue Ridge Road, then right onto Route 9 South. Turn right onto Frontier Town Road and continue to the campground entrance.
