About

Paradox Lake Campground is a New York State DEC facility situated on rolling hills of hardwood forest along the shore of Dark Bay, which opens onto the 4.75-mile-long Paradox Lake in the Adirondacks. The campground offers 58 campsites with modern amenities including hot showers and flush toilets, making it an ideal base camp for exploring the region. The lake provides excellent opportunities for boating and fishing, with motor boats allowed via a single-lane natural sand and gravel launch ramp. Canoes, rowboats, kayaks, and standup paddleboards are available for rent at the registration booth. Anglers can target smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and northern pike in the abundant waters. The day use area features a picnic area with pavilion rental and wheelchair accessible restrooms. Hikers will appreciate the proximity to the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area, with trails leaving from near the campground entrance providing access to Crane, Oxshoe, Crab, Putnam, and Horseshoe Ponds, as well as Pharaoh Lake and Pharaoh Mountain. The summit of Pharaoh Mountain offers comprehensive views that reward the climb. Additional trails to Peaked Hill and Peaked Hill Pond are accessible by boat from the opposite shore. The campground also features a Junior Naturalist Program for children ages 5-13. First developed in 1931 with 32 sites, the campground expanded to its current 58-site configuration in 1968.
