Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT

December 29th, 1:04 PM — 1:00 AM

Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.

About

Crown Point Campground occupies a historically significant location on the lower southwestern shore of Lake Champlain in Essex County, New York. The 49-acre campground rests over battlefields and fort locations from the Revolutionary War era, with the iconic Champlain Memorial Lighthouse (built 1858, rebuilt 1911-1912) standing on the shore. The Crown Point Bridge, one of the few connections between New York and Vermont, looms on the northern shore. The entire Crown Point Reservation is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark. The campground offers 66 grass-covered sites capable of accommodating any size RV, plus one lean-to. Full amenities include hot showers, a trailer dump station, recycling center, and firewood and ice sales. The property features a boat launch and fishing pier providing access to Lake Champlain's 281,600 acres, where anglers can pursue largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, bullhead, yellow perch, brown trout, and lake trout. Adjacent Crown Point State Historic Site preserves the ruins of Fort Crown Point and Fort St. Frederic, while Fort Ticonderoga lies 10 miles south. The New York State Conservation Department acquired the land in 1910, and campground construction began in 1915, with expansions in 1930, 1951, and 1952.
