Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT

December 29th, 1:04 PM — 1:00 AM

Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.

About

Crown Point Campground occupies a historically significant peninsula on Lake Champlain's lower southwestern shore in the Adirondacks, where the Crown Point Bridge connects New York and Vermont. The entire 49-acre campground is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Landmark, with remnants of Revolutionary War-era battlefields and fort structures dating to 1775 visible throughout the grounds. The campground offers 66 grass-covered campsites capable of holding any size RV, plus one lean-to. The Champlain Memorial Lighthouse, originally built in 1858 and reconstructed in 1911-1912, stands on the campground shore overlooking the 281,600-acre lake. A steamboat pier constructed in 1929 serves as a popular fishing spot. Lake Champlain provides excellent fishing opportunities for largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, bullhead, yellow perch, brown trout, and lake trout. Facilities include hot showers, a dump station, recycling center, small picnic area, firewood and ice sales, and an accessible boat launch with dock. The campground adjoins Crown Point State Historic Site, which features the ruins of Fort Crown Point and Fort St. Frederic. Fort Ticonderoga is located 10 miles south. The site's rich military heritage spans French, British, and American occupation during the colonial and Revolutionary periods.
