Closed for camping. The Forest Service prohibited camping at Scott Reservoir Recreation Site effective February 28, 2026 due to unsanitary conditions resulting from lack of bathroom facilities. The closure remains in effect until February 28, 2029.

The Red Flag Warning for Monday will expire at 7 PM MST. These conditions redevelop by late Tuesday morning, with Critical Fire Weather conditions developing for much of Tuesday in the same area, Expect southwest winds 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, along with minimum relative humidity values from 6 to 20 percent. * WHERE...East and southeast of Flagstaff, stretching along the Mogollon Rim and White Mountains, as well as northward into the Little Colorado River Valley. Scott Reservoir Campground is located in the Lakeside Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, near Lakeside, Arizona. Situated at 6,800 feet elevation near Scott Reservoir, this modestly developed campground has been a popular summer destination for fishing and boating enthusiasts. The reservoir supports a variety of fish species including rainbow trout, brown trout, channel catfish, largemouth bass, green sunfish, bluegill, and carp. Single electric motors are permissible on boats, and an accessible boat ramp is available. When operational, the campground provides 12 designated campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. Camping along the lakeshore is prohibited. Access requires navigating a rough road from Porter Mountain Road (Forest Road 45). No potable water is available at the site. Summer thunderstorms from July through September are frequent and can be abrupt, with lightning posing a significant danger near the water.

Directions

From Lakeside, drive east 0.1 mile on State Highway 260. Turn left onto Porter Mountain Road (Forest Road 45). Continue 1.5 miles and look for the Scott Reservoir sign on the right. Follow the road to the facilities. The access road is very rough in some spots.
