Hoyer Campground is situated among the ponderosa pine forests of eastern Arizona and is one of the most popular campgrounds in the area for families and seniors. Located less than a mile from Greer Lakes in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, the campground sits at an elevation of 8,300 feet in the scenic and remote White Mountains. The campground contains nearly 100 campsites that are shaded and lie on a bed of pine needles or grass. Gravel roads and parking pads provide good access throughout the facility. Sites include picnic tables and campfire grills. The campground features shower facilities, a dump station, trash collection, and on-site hosts who sell bundled firewood and ice. An amphitheater hosts educational programs on Saturday evenings during summer. Greer Lakes and the Little Colorado River are within walking distance for anglers seeking rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and brown trout. Multiple hiking trails are accessible within a short drive. The White Mountain and Coronado Trail Scenic Byways offer spectacular driving routes. Summer temperatures are pleasant due to the elevation, though the rainy season brings afternoon thunderstorms from late June through August. Chipmunks and Abert's squirrels are common campground residents, while mule deer and elk inhabit the surrounding forest.

Directions

From Greer, drive two miles north on State Highway 373. The campground is across from Greer Lakes on the right. From Show Low, take Highway 260 southeast 42 miles to Highway 373, then south 3 miles.
