From Recreation.gov

This campground was surrounded by the Rodeo-Chediski fire in the summer of 2002. The area around the campground was severely burned and presents safety hazards, including stump holes and falling limbs and trees. The campground is still forested and trees within the facility have been sprayed with pesticide to help protect against bark beetles. For more information, contact the Lakeside Ranger District at 928-368-2100.

About

Lewis Canyon is a single group campsite located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in eastern Arizona's White Mountains. Set at 6,600 feet elevation in a beautiful ponderosa pine forest with a large adjacent meadow, the campground accommodates up to 150 people and is ideal for family reunions and large gatherings. The facility features vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and can accommodate RVs up to 45 feet in length with sites spaced around a large loop for privacy. The campground provides access to the extensive White Mountain Trail System for hiking and mountain biking, and nearby Forest Service roads offer opportunities for OHV enthusiasts. On-site amenities include a horseshoe pit and baseball field. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with wild turkeys, elk, and mule deer frequently seen in the area. The area surrounding Lewis Canyon was severely impacted by the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski fire, and visitors should be aware of remaining safety hazards including stump holes and potential falling limbs. Summer temperatures are pleasant due to elevation, though afternoon thunderstorms are common from late June through August during monsoon season. Potable water is not available at the campground but can be obtained at the Forest Service work center in Pinedale.

Directions

From Pinedale on State Highway 260 (approximately 14 miles northwest of Show Low), turn south on Forest Road 130 and continue past the Forest Service work center for 2.3 miles to Junction 130A. Turn right on 130A and follow signs to the group site.
